A Dream, Indeed
The final cut of our film was due at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, so naturally, we pulled an all-nighter between Tuesday and Wednesday. I ended up dozing off at about 10 AM on Wednesday morning for an hour or so, before Aika woke up me. During that hour, I had a dream…
My mom, my dad, my two sisters, my brother and I are all sitting in my dad’s Suburban, driving down the freeway. The sky is gloomy and cold. We are on our way to visit Stephanie Larson. My mom suddenly notes that there is an unusually high number of aircraft in the air. Looking out the window, I find that the sky is packed with airplanes, helicopters, blimps, etcetera. I feel tense. It’s as if they don’t want to be on the surface. Like they know something bad is about to happen down here.
I focus my attention out the front of the car. We’re about thirty seconds away from passing an offramp that leads up to an overpass that crosses over the freeway. Suddenly, a giant, orange, glowing orb of energy comes rocketing down from the sky. It’s diameter is about the width of three or four freeway lanes. It smashes into the freeway about five hundred feet ahead of us. The scene resembles something out of War of the Worlds or Independence Day. Everywhere I look out the windows of the car, I can see these giant orbs pummeling the surface. Buildings are toppling over, cars are being thrown every which way and all the smoke and debris is making is difficult to see.
My dad frantically tries to drive our car toward the offramp to get us off the freeway. As we reach the mouth of the offramp, one of the orbs impacts just behind us, sending our car flying through the air. As we flip over I realize that we are going to land upside down. Fighting gravity, I hug my legs to keep myself as far away from the ceiling of the car as possible.
Suddenly, I’m at Stephanie’s house, meeting her mom. The house is quite extravagant, definitely having cost the Larson family a pretty penny, especially in today’s housing market. They had just purchased the house from my roommate’s girlfriend’s family. Stephanie’s mom is complaining that the previous owners had left a dog as a house warming gift, but it was an absolutely stupid dog, and she was sure that it had been left behind for just that reason.
Aika was standing next to the couch I was sleeping on, calling my name. Groggily, I stood up and walked over to the computer to continue work on our film.
